FINE ART LIMITED EDITION LITHOGRAPH
"SWEET" - A LIFESAVER IN TIME
AMERICA TO MEXICO FINE ART ARTIST VIC HERMAN
This is an outstanding, beautiful
Limited Edition
Lithograph "Sweet"
Signed & Numbered
by
famous
American Artist Vic Herman
(1919-1999).
In
"Sweet"
, the artist presents a famous ballerina from the
Ballet Folklorico de Mexico
. She is about to put a Life Saver in her mouth. In real life, this is vitally important for her to do – She is diabetic. She needs the sugar from a Life Saver before every performance! Mr. Herman'
s appreciation of Mexico
'
s people is clearly evident in this Fine Lithograph.
Mr. Herman
was born in Massachusetts, but grew up in Los Angeles where he learned to speak Spanish and nurtured a great love and respect for his Mexican-American schoolmates and neighbors.
During World War II
, Mr. Herman was a field correspondent for "Stars and Stripes" and created the character
Winnie the WAC
for the U.S. Navy. He later created other figures including
Elsie the Cow and Reddy Kilowatt.
His illustrations were carried in virtually all of the national magazines of his day.
Mr. Herman was nationally and internationally-known as
"
The Norman Rockwell of Mexico
"
because he portrayed the Mexican people in their own culture, doing their normal day-to-day activities as well as at their special times, just as Mr. Rockwell did for the American people. The artist often gave his artwork such
whimsical titles as: "Eating Up the Profits"
,
"
Patience Is the Companion of Wisdom
"
,
"Birth of a Tycoon of Manana", "Two Heads Are Better Th
an One", and "A Bellyful Means a Happy Heart"
.
The
"Sweet" Image
was part of the
"
Many Faces of Mexico Exhibition
"
that traveled extensively in Mexico and the United States under the sponsorship of
both the Mexican and American Governments
. In February 1974,
American Artist Magazine
published its
article
by Frederic Whitaker,
"
Vic Herman: Ambassador with a Brush
", a name by which Mr. Herman also became known. His
artwork is today included in numerous public, private, and corporate Fine Art Collections.
This
"Sweet"
Fine Art Limited Edition Lithograph
is
number 23
from the artist
'
s
limited edition of 300 numbered lithographs plus Proofs.
