Not long ago, some fanatical Isuzu engineers were given a blank check and an extraordinary challenge:
To create an entirely new breed of vehicle. One with the instincts of a sports car and the guts of a truck.
The result? The fabulous new Amigo - part beauty, part beast.
MORE BAD NEWS
Amigo is no watered-down pimpmobile, mind you. In its most potent form, it posseses a full 50% more horsepower than a top-of-the-line Geo Tracker.®
It also has more horsepower than the Jeep Wrangler.®
And to handle all those ponies, Amigo features a heavy-duty five speed manual transmission.
A GLUTON FOR PUNISHMENT
Amigo's precise handling results from a revised version of tire suspension system we use on our rugged 4x4 trucks. It inspires a stiff, stable off-road ride
while remaining smooth and agile on the road.
In addition, Amigo boasts more minimum ground clearance than the Tracker or Wrangler, as well as triple skid plates to protect the entire drivetrain during rowdy off-road use.
Of course, not everyone is an off-road aficionado. So we also make the Amigo in 2-wheel drive. (It looks the same, but costs less).
HOW DO WE STOP THE BEAST?
Unlike the Tracker or Wrangler, Amigo offers 4-wheel disc brakes. They’re standard on our 4x4 Amigo and optional on the 2-wheel drive.*
Humungous all-terrain tires on flashy 15-inch aluminum wheels are also available.
OPEN SESAME
Peel off Amigo’s
top and you can romp around with the wind at your back. Add our optional rear seat and the back becomes a convertible.**
Another nifty feature is Amigo's side-opening tailgate. It lets you get to the cargo space easily. And speaking of cargo space. Amigo has over three feet of cargo floor length. Even with its rear seat occupied, there's ample room for excess baggage.
CREATURE COMFORTS
Since Amigo is part sports car, comfortable reclining front bucket seats are standard.
And you am select from a vast variety of options including a removable sunroof, your choice of audio systems and air conditioning. Other options appear on the next page.

Climb inside the Amigo and you’ll immediately sink into cushy, reclining front bucket seats. See-through headrests add to Amigo’s already sporty look.
Order our optional rear seat and you can haul friends in back of the Amigo. When not in use, the seat can be folded forward to increase cargo capacity.
Amigo’s car-like interior puts all controls comfortably within reach. A three-spoke tilt steering wheel comes standard on the XS model.
Snazzy alloy wheels with 10.5” x 31" all-terrain tires are standard on the 4x4 XS model and optional on all 2.6 liter S models.
Amigo is available with an AM/FM ETR stereo system or stereo cassette, both with dual speakers.
For sun worshippers, we offer an optional roof that can be tilted up or removed completely.
Amigo’s tough, double-wall cargo bed helps provide protection to the exterior body during hauling.
