This is an outstanding
Fine Art
Limited Edition
Lithograph
"Network of Life"
Signed & Numbered
by
famous
American Artist Vic Herman
(1919-1999).
In this fine lithograph, we are led to the seashore to find one of the basic functions underlying all societies, the provision of food to feed and nourish our populations. Hunting, food gathering, and fishing began in the earliest of times. And though basic, the fine nets of the fishermen in
"Network of Life"
show the deep care they have for their trade. Here, as is true with Mr. Herman's
companion lithograph
to this lithograph, "
Reward for Hard Work
", his love of the Mexican people and Mexican culture is clearly evident.
Mr. Herman
was born in Massachusetts, but grew up in Los Angeles where he learned to speak Spanish and nurtured a great love and respect for his Mexican-American schoolmates and neighbors.
During World War II
, Mr. Herman was a field correspondent for "Stars and Stripes" and created the character
Winnie the WAC
for the U.S. Navy. He later created other figures including
Elsie the Cow and Reddy Kilowatt.
His illustrations were carried in virtually all of the national magazines of his day.
The artist was nationally and internationally-known as
"
The Norman Rockwell of Mexico
"
because he portrayed the Mexican people in their own culture, doing their normal day-to-day activities as well as at their special times, just as Mr. Rockwell did for the American people. Mr. Herman often gave his artwork
whimsical titles like "Eating Up the Profits"
,
"
Patience Is the Companion of Wisdom
"
, "A Bellyful Means a Happy Heart",
"Birth of a Tycoon of Manana", and "Two Heads Are Better Than One
"
.
The
"Network of Life" Image
was part of the
"
Many Faces of Mexico Exhibition
"
that traveled extensively in Mexico and the United States under the sponsorship of
both the Mexican and American Governments
. In February 1974,
American Artist Magazine
published its
article
by Frederic Whitaker,
"
Vic Herman: Ambassador with a Brush
", a name by which Mr. Herman also became known. His
artwork is today included in numerous public, private, and corporate Fine Art Collections.
