    by
    famous
    American Artist Vic Herman
    (1919-1999).
    Here,
    two Mexican women
kneel together in prayer. Faith and service are important to them and to their families, friends, and nation. They are kneeling on a hilltop, close to God, with their eyes to the heavens. The lithograph image's textured sky is representative of the artist's well-known fine art style – As is his deep love for the Mexican people.
    Mr. Herman
was born in Massachusetts, but grew up in Los Angeles where he learned to speak Spanish and nurtured a great love and respect for his Mexican-American schoolmates and neighbors.
    During World War II
, Mr. Herman was a field correspondent for "Stars and Stripes" and created the character
    Winnie the WAC
for the U.S. Navy. He later created other figures including
Elsie the Cow and Reddy Kilowatt.
His illustrations were carried in virtually all of the national magazines of his day.
The artist was nationally and internationally-known as
    "
    The Norman Rockwell of Mexico
    "
because he portrayed the Mexican people in their own culture, doing their normal day-to-day activities as well as at their special times, just as Mr. Rockwell did for the American people. Mr. Herman often gave his artwork
whimsical titles like "Eating Up the Profits"
    ,
    "
Patience Is the Companion of Wisdom
    "
    , "A Bellyful Means a Happy Heart",
"Birth of a Tycoon of Manana", and "Two Heads Are Better Than One
    "
    .
    The
    "Two Prayers, One Wish"
    Image
    was part of the
    "
    Many Faces of Mexico Exhibition
    "
that traveled extensively in Mexico and the United States under the sponsorship of
both the Mexican and American Governments
    . In February 1974,
    American Artist Magazine
    published its
    article
    by Frederic Whitaker,
    "
Vic Herman: Ambassador with a Brush
", a name by which Mr. Herman also became known. His
artwork is today included in numerous public, private, and corporate Fine Art Collections.
