Description
Beautiful, elegant, delicate looking, small Egyptian Revival, Art Deco, Scarab Beetle Brooch, With Enamels On I believe Gilt Silver, with a marked Silver Purity of 800/1000 . I found no manufacturing marks, so I am not sure where the piece was made, The pin is about 3/4" tall x about 1" wide. To my eye, the brooch looks to have been made in an art deco style , typical of the 1920s , when there was so much excitement about ancient Egypt, resulting from the discovery of the body and tomb of King Tutankhamen by English archaeologist Howard Carter in 1923. Suddenly all things looking Ancient Egyptian became the fashion rage and have to some significant degree, continued to be sought after to this day.The pin is beautiful in appearance and has the age and patina to confirm its old age. It is in very good condition for a piece so close to 100 years old. It looks great and will display well. As expected, it does have minor wear and tear, including rubbing, staining, some paint loss and paint color fading, scratches, dirt and tarnish. Also the pin at the back is a bit bent, making it hard for non agile me to release and free the pin from its C clasp. I do not want to force it and risk breaking it. I will leave it for the more agile of you to fix. While I have not dealt with jewelers very much, and do not know for sure, I would imagine a jeweler could fix it, if need be. In my opinion, the faults it has are minor and do not detract from how great the brooch looks. Also please note the scarab is simulated.
