De Los Prognósticos Va. Small broadside with predictions/ a sort-of-horoscope for the year. Sublime engravings by Posada, especially verso with a lady dancing a tango with her dapper kitty. Printed by Vanegas Arroyo, Mexico City.
These are fine examples of Posada's earlier imagery. 11 3/4 x 8"
Both Posada and Manilla worked as engravers around the turn of the 20th century and are renown for their ardent Mexican populism during a time where Eurocentrism dominated the culture. They are the pivotal artists in the transition from the colonial to the modern and had strong influence on the Mexican muralists such as Diego Rivera.
