HARRISON H. BROWN WAS A FIRST LIEUTENANT WITH THE 5TH REGIMENT OF THE ILLINOIS CAVALRY, COMPANY L.
According to some online sources, Lt. Brown resigned on Feb. 14th, 1863. In the 1863 diary, however, he lists himself as having been hospitalized on Feb. 19, 1863 on Hilton Head Island. After a long break in writing, he changes the dates to 1864 and describes going on furlough and then returning to service. He lists multiple visits to the doctor during this time period. His pension application lists him as an invalid, having survived the war.
According to his own words, "We mustered out of the United States Division by Lieutenant Williams." November 22, 1864.

It's such an honor to be able to tie all these items to a specific soldier, Harrison H. Brown. INFORMATION ABOUT THE writing from the diaries. Some are very hard to make out. The dates are listed on the top of the pages and several writings say "On Guard." This is very interesting. We also include our research papers such as Harrison's death certificate and a complete list of the soldiers in the Company L 5th Illinois Cavalry, and a typed out information sheet on this soldier. There is defiantly more research to be done on these artifacts and soldier, however, we have provided a good bit! The Sunday School Book includes stories inside such as "Are You Ready," & "The Indian Sisters."
