Tibetan Spaniel originated in the Himalayan Mountains of Tibet and has been known for over 2000 years. Tibbies as they are sometimes called, were never purchased, they lived with the Buddhist monks and were only given away as treasured gifts to the very lucky. They would sit on the walls of the monastery and watch over for trouble. Their double coat needs only weekly brushing and can come in any color including cream, gold and sable, with white marking allowed on the feet. In spite of weighing 9 to 15 pounds, and being approximately 10 inches tall at the withers, they need moderate exercise but can do very well in apartment life. The AKC recognized this breed in the Non-Sporting Group in 1983.Standard Figurine: This Tibetan Spaniel dog figurine features a standing Tibetan Spaniel.
