VINTAGE AMMUNITION AMMO? WOODEN WOOD CRATE LABELED BARKSDALE!

VINTAGE WOODEN CRATE!
This wooden crate measures approximately 14 1/2" x 10 1/2" x 8 1/2" and does show use and wear. The only word I can see is BARKSDALE which is electrical equipment or an Air Force Base. My guess is this is an ammo box, but I can't be sure.
