This vintage painting was done by Connecticut artist Lois Read.  This painting shows Conchero dancers in the plaza of San Miguel Allende.  The painting measures 7 1/2" by 5 3/4" inside the mat and 13 1/4" by 11 1/2" with frame.  The painting has been framed with a simple wooden frame and mat and covered with glass.  The artist signed this painting - but it is hidden under the mat and this is noted in the personalization on the back.  There are some shallow scrapes on the frame, the painting is in great vintage condition.
Lois Read, fauculty emeritus at Hopkins School in New Haven, Connecticut, taught Art and Art History there for 25 years before retiring in 1991 to paint full-time.  Lois studied at
University of Wisconsin (BS in Applied Arts), Wesleyan University (MAT), Ecole de Beaux Artes, Lacoste, France, RISD. She taught painting in Lacoste in 1979 (Cezanne country), and returned ten years later on a painting sabbatical. since 1979 she has travelled to Greece, Egypt, Italy, Germany, and London, recording her impressions in sketch-book journals. For the past five years she has wintered and painted in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
Read has exhibited in Connecticut for may years in group and single-artist shows.
