    Some history of CAMP BOAL:
Theodore Davis Boal in May 1916 formed the Camp Boal Troop, a horse - mounted machine unit. Many members of the unit were Penn State faculty, employees, and students. Boal provided rations, horses, uniforms, other provisions and the unit reached 78 men. After  the Boal Troop was deemed fit for national guard service, it was sent to the Texas-Mexican border as the machine gun troop of the 1st Pennsylvania cavalry. When the US entered WW! in 1917, the troop ( then comprising 172 Men ) became Company A of the 107th Machine Gun Battalion, a unit of the 28th division, and sent to France in 1917. Camp Boal lasted as a training site through the 1930's but was closed when the troop disbanded in 1936.
