N.J. man admits stealing car, selling it in Georgia

A Wall Township man has pleaded guilty to stealing and selling a car last year and attempting to bribe a witness to give a false statement to police, authorities said.
Jaquel Accoo, 29, admitted Monday to motor vehicle theft and witness tampering before Superior Court Judge David Fritch, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
Toms River police received a report of a stole car on Oct. 14, 2023 and determined that Accoo had been loaned the vehicle, but failed to return it, authorities said.
He instead sold the car to someone in Georgia.
Accoo remained at large until he was captured Jan. 22 in Red Bank, authorities said.
After he was released from jail on the theft charge, he tried to bribe someone to give police false information about the case, authorities said.
The plea deal calls for Accoo to be sentenced to five years in state prison. Sentencing is scheduled for January.
